Super Eagles defender Abdullahi Bewene in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa has stated that he is excited to be back in the international fold, after being named in the squad for the friendly against Russia in this window.
“I am glad to be back in the national setup again, and I am ready to represent my nation, even though it’s a friendly game. I enjoyed the experience I had last time, before the World Cup, when we played Poland and Portugal. I think I did well in those games and impressed Nigerians, because I got a lot of calls and messages commending me,” he exclusively told Footy-Africa.
“It feels nice that Nigerians now know me and appreciate my game, and that’s given me the motivation to do more and help Nigeria win trophies if given the chance. The friendly against Russia is another chance to play for Nigeria, which has always been my dream. I would have loved to play in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, but God’s time is the best.”

“The players there are more than capable of giving Nigeria a good win over Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. I’m sure of that,” he added.
The 21-year-old had a debut to remember against Poland and also featured against Portugal ahead of the last World Cup.
The Baník Ostrava defender says he’s relishing the chance to wear the national colours again, and has pledged to keep delivering for Nigeria whenever he’s called upon.
Bewene won’t be part of the squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, but has been pencilled in for the Russia game, a squad made up largely of players being lined up for the Olympic qualifiers.
He said that although he’d have loved to be involved in the AFCON 2027 qualifiers, he’s simply glad to have another chance to play for Nigeria.
