Gambian youngster Amara Camara has officially begun a new chapter in his football career after completing a permanent move from Real de Banjul Football Club to Swedish side Kalmar FF on a five-year contract.
The move marks the culmination of a carefully managed development journey that began more than two years ago, when Kalmar first identified the talented midfielder during a scouting mission in The Gambia.
At the centre of the process has been Modou Lamin Beyai of Modoustic Sports, who has represented Camara throughout the transfer and worked closely with the player, Real de Banjul and Kalmar FF from the early stages of the relationship.
For Beyai, the completion of the transfer represents much more than the signing of a contract. It is the conclusion of a patient process designed around the long-term development of a young Gambian footballer.
“Amara’s transfer to Kalmar FF is one that makes me particularly happy because this is not something that happened overnight,” Beyai explained exclusively told Footy-Africa. “It has taken a lot of sleepless nights, efforts and resources to finally come to this where he signed for the club. It has actually been a journey of more than two years between Amara, Kalmar FF, Real de Banjul and ourselves as agents.”
Journey that began in 2024
The story began in 2024 when Kalmar FF representatives were in The Gambia scouting for young talent. Former sports director Jörgen Petersson and technical director Jens Nilsson were among those involved in the scouting process that eventually led them to Camara.
At just 16 years old, Camara was still at the beginning of his football journey, but his potential was already evident.
One particular moment helped convince the Swedish club of his ability.
During the match watched by the Kalmar representatives, Camara produced a memorable free-kick that caught their attention and helped establish the young player on their radar.
His first visit to Sweden followed in July 2024, when he travelled to Kalmar alongside fellow Gambian youngster Gibril Sosseh.

The pair spent approximately ten days training with the club, giving Camara his first experience of Kalmar’s football environment and a taste of the demands associated with European football.
While Sosseh eventually completed his own move to Kalmar, Camara’s development was handled with patience because of his age.
“Gibril eventually went on to sign for Kalmar while with Amara there was never any need to rush the process because of his age,” Beyai said. “Kalmar continued following him, maintaining the relationship and monitoring his development.”
That continued monitoring became an important feature of Camara’s journey.
Continued development and european exposure
Camara returned to Kalmar in February 2025, spending another period training with the first team.
For Beyai, the second visit demonstrated that Kalmar’s interest extended beyond an initial scouting exercise.
“They genuinely wanted to continue assessing him, seeing his development and getting to know him both as a footballer and as a person,” he explained.
Camara, meanwhile, had developed a strong affinity for the Swedish club.
According to Beyai, the youngster consistently expressed his appreciation for Kalmar’s environment, the people around the club and the way he was treated during his visits.
At the same time, Camara was attracting interest from other clubs and had opportunities to experience football in different European environments.
One of those opportunities took him to Spain, where he spent time with Real Valladolid, then a La Liga club.
The experience provided another valuable stage in his development and exposed the Gambian youngster to a different football culture and training environment.

Despite the additional opportunities, Kalmar remained a significant option for Camara and his representatives.
“Even when he went to Valladolid, in our minds we always felt that eventually it would be Kalmar,” Beyai said.
Development plan at the heart of the decision
The deciding factor was not simply the reputation of the club or the league in which it played.
According to Beyai, Kalmar had presented a clear development pathway for Camara — one that focused on adaptation, gradual progression and preparation for senior European football.
“It wasn’t just about signing a talented young African player,” he said. “There was a pathway laid out for how they wanted to work with him, help him adapt, develop him and gradually prepare him for the demands of senior European football.”
For the agent, that approach was particularly important.
Rather than focusing solely on the biggest club or most lucrative opportunity available, Beyai said the priority was finding an environment where a young player could receive the right support and opportunities to develop.
That confidence was also strengthened by the experience of another Gambian player.
Gibril Sosseh had previously moved from BST Galaxy to Kalmar, developed within the Swedish club’s system, played senior football and subsequently earned a transfer to Slavia Prague.
His journey provided a practical example of the type of pathway that could potentially be available to Camara.
“We had also already seen evidence of that pathway through Gibril Sosseh,” Beyai said. “So when you have already seen that pathway working with another young Gambian player whom we know very well, naturally it gives you confidence.”
The final step in 2026
At the beginning of 2026, Kalmar invited Camara back to Sweden once again.
This time, his involvement went a step further.
The youngster was integrated into the first-team environment and travelled with the squad to Pinatar, Spain, for preseason training.
For Camara, it represented another important stage in his transition from youth football in The Gambia towards professional football in Europe.
He was able to spend an extended period training alongside senior players, experience the daily demands of first-team football and become increasingly familiar with the standards expected at Kalmar.
By this stage, the relationship between player and club had developed over a considerable period.
Kalmar had followed Camara through his football development in The Gambia and during his various visits to Sweden, while Camara had become familiar with the club, its environment and its expectations.
The changes that had taken place within Kalmar’s coaching and management structures did not alter the relationship that had been built over time.
“When the time finally came for him to make the move permanently after turning 18, there was already a relationship and a lot of trust between everyone involved,” Beyai said.
Completing the transfer
Although the sporting relationship had been established, there remained significant work behind the scenes before the transfer could be completed.
Beyai was involved in negotiations with Real de Banjul, contractual arrangements, documentation, residence-permit procedures and the other administrative requirements associated with moving a young Gambian player to Europe.
The process required patience and coordination between the different parties.
Eventually, those steps were completed and Camara was officially registered as a Kalmar FF player.
The five-year contract now gives the 18-year-old an opportunity to establish himself within Swedish football and continue his development in a professional European environment.
The beginning, not the destination
For Beyai, however, the signing should not be viewed as the final achievement of Camara’s journey.
Instead, it represents the beginning of the next phase.
“He is still only 18 years old, so no one will be putting unnecessary pressure on him or expect everything immediately,” Beyai said. “He has to work extremely hard, remain humble, learn every day, adapt to the demands of European football and take his opportunities when they come.”
The agent hopes Camara can build his own successful story at Kalmar, while using Sosseh’s journey as an example of what can potentially follow sustained development and consistent performances.
Beyai stressed that there is no need to rush the next step.

Whether Camara eventually spends one, two or several seasons at Kalmar before earning another opportunity will depend on his performances and development.
“The most important thing now is that he establishes himself, develops and contributes to Kalmar,” he said. “If he does that, then naturally I hope that one day he can earn another big move from Kalmar, just as Gibril did when he moved to Slavia Prague.”
But there is one principle Beyai believes must remain constant: opportunities have to be earned.
“Everything has to be earned on the pitch,” he added.
Patient process, new beginning
Camara’s move to Kalmar is therefore the product of a process that has stretched across more than two years.
It began with a scouting trip to The Gambia in 2024 and a standout free-kick from a teenage Camara. It continued with his first training visit to Sweden alongside Sosseh, followed by another spell with Kalmar in 2025.
Along the way, he gained further international exposure through his experience in Spain with Real Valladolid before returning to Kalmar and joining the club’s first team for preseason in Pinatar in 2026.
Now, after turning 18, he has completed the permanent move that had been carefully developed over time.
For Beyai, that patience is what makes the transfer particularly satisfying.
“It wasn’t rushed and it wasn’t a decision based simply on the biggest name of clubs available,” he said. “There was a plan with Kalmar knowing exactly the player they were signing, Amara knowing very well the club he is joining and everybody had time to build trust and understand the pathway.”
The next chapter now belongs to Camara.
With a five-year contract in Sweden and years of development ahead of him, the young Gambian has an opportunity to establish himself, contribute to Kalmar FF and continue building his career on the European stage.
“My hope is that he enjoys his football, helps Kalmar FF achieve its objectives, continues developing season by season and eventually leaves the club having created his own successful story there,” Beyai concluded.
