Nigeria defender Ibrahim Buhari during an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa has stated that speculation linking him with a move away from Elfsborg does not concern him as he remains focused on earning a regular starting place at the club.
Despite the growing speculation, Buhari insists his priority remains fighting for a place in Elfsborg’s starting lineup rather than thinking about a transfer.
“Some of the reports are true and some are not. Anything can happen this summer,” Buhari exclusively told Footy-Africa. “I had the opportunity to move before the season started, but that deal did not work out. As a professional, my responsibility is to focus on the challenge in front of me.”
“In football, transfer rumours are normal. There was interest before, and there is interest now, but the most important thing is not to get distracted by it. I am happy at Elfsborg and I always try to give my best to the team. I have heard about interest from some clubs in England and I have seen some of the reports online, but it is not something I am focused on right now.”
Buhari to continue at Elfsborg despite interest from Major League Soccer
The 24-year-old has featured in just five matches across all competitions this season and has started only one of those games.
Buhari admits he would like more playing time but understands the competition for places and remains committed to working his way into the team.
“Every player wants to play regularly, and I am no different, but the coach makes those decisions because he is the boss. I just have to keep working hard and be ready when my opportunity comes. The success of the team is bigger than any individual, and I have to continue supporting those who are playing,” he added.
The centre-back has seen limited action in the Allsvenskan this season, a situation that has reportedly attracted interest from clubs monitoring his availability ahead of the summer transfer window.
Reports in England have linked the former Plateau United defender with moves to Portsmouth FC and Lincoln City.
