Premier League side Arsenal risk losing Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey to free agency, with contract negotiations failing to progress, Footy-Africa understands.
The 32-year-old had his best season for the Gunners in the recently concluded 2024/25 campaign, scoring four goals and providing two assists in 35 league appearances. He also ranked fourth in the league for successful take-on percentage (68.6%).
Valued at €14 million by Transfermarkt, Partey’s contract with Arsenal is set to expire on June 30, 2025.
The Nerve Africa reported a two months ago that the Gunners were negotiating a new deal with the Ghanaian’s representatives. The midfielder is reportedly seeking a two-year contract or a one-year deal with the option to extend for an additional 12 months.
However, as of the time of writing, Footy-Africa understands from sources close to the player that negotiations have not progressed as expected, and free agency is becoming a real possibility.
Partey is expected to join Arsenal’s training camp when it resumes over the weekend, as he awaits further developments regarding his contract situation. He was recently crowned Ghana Footballer of the Year for the third time at the 7th edition of the Ghana Football Awards.
The former Atlético Madrid star has been linked with a return to the Spanish side, as well as interest from Barcelona.
