Kenyan international and playmaker Austin Odhiambo has taken a significant leap in his career after officially completing a move from Gor Mahia to Lebanese Premier League powerhouse Nejmeh SC.

The transfer brings an end to Odhiambo’s highly successful spell in Kenyan football, where he established himself as the standout creative talent in the FKF Premier League over the past two seasons. His departure from Gor Mahia marks the close of an era for the Kenyan champions, who leaned heavily on his vision, flair, and match-winning ability.

For weeks, the attacking midfielder had been at the centre of intense transfer speculation, with reported interest from clubs in Belgium and several Asian leagues. Ultimately, Odhiambo opted for a new challenge in the Middle East, committing his future to Nejmeh SC and opening a fresh chapter in his professional journey.

Nejmeh SC confirmed the signing via their official Facebook page, offering a characteristically bold welcome to the Kenyan international.

“We won’t talk much…The pitch ground will be the scale and decider. Austin Odhiambo, welcome to Lighthouse Castle. Welcome, Austin Odhiambo,” the club announced.

Based in Beirut, Nejmeh SC are among the most decorated and widely supported clubs in Lebanese football. The team is a regular contender for domestic silverware and has built a strong reputation on the continental stage, particularly in competitions such as the AFC Cup.

For Odhiambo, the move represents far more than a simple transfer abroad. It is a strategic step toward greater international visibility and a chance to test himself in a more competitive and diverse football environment.

He arrives in Lebanon on the back of a remarkable campaign with Gor Mahia, where his influence was undeniable. Odhiambo was named the 2023/24 KPL Most Valuable Player after orchestrating a title-winning season, contributing double figures in both goals and assists as Gor Mahia stormed to a record-extending 21st league crown.

As he embarks on this new adventure with Nejmeh SC, expectations will be high, but so too is the belief that Austin Odhiambo’s talent can shine well beyond Kenyan borders.
