Bologna have recalled Ghanaian midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana from the Black Stars camp to undergo treatment in Italy after sustaining a knee knock during international duty, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.

The 22-year-old was ruled out of Ghana’s 1-1 draw against Chad on Thursday, and his return to Italy means he will also miss Monday night’s crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Sulemana is yet to make an appearance for Bologna, having joined the Serie A side on loan just before the international break. He travelled immediately to link up with the Black Stars, leaving his club debut on hold.

Bologna are hopeful the midfielder will recover in time for their next league fixture against AC Milan. As part of the loan agreement, the Rossoblù hold an option to make the move permanent for €10 million at the end of the season.

Sulemana, who signed a four-year deal with Atalanta in June 2024 after leaving Cagliari for around €7.5 million, still has three years left on his contract with the Bergamo club. He finished last season strongly, scoring twice and showing his potential.

Bologna beat several clubs to secure the loan deal for Ibrahim Sulemana

His current market value is estimated at €7 million, according to Transfermarkt.
