AFC Bournemouth are weighing up their attacking options ahead of the January transfer window amid growing uncertainty over the future of Antoine Semenyo, according to BBC report.
With the Premier League club preparing for the possibility of losing the Ghana international, attention has turned to FC Basel forward Philip Otele, who has emerged as a leading candidate to bolster the Cherries’ frontline.
Tottenham ready to tear up pay scale in bold move for Antoine Semenyo
The 26-year-old Nigerian has impressed since moving to Switzerland from Al Wahda, first on a short-term deal before making the switch permanent. His pace and direct style have made him a standout performer for Basel and caught the eye of recruitment teams across Europe.
Bournemouth are understood to see Otele as a player capable of filling a similar role to Semenyo, offering speed, physicality and a consistent goal threat across league and continental competition.
Otele has maintained his form this season, contributing four goals and three assists in 16 league matches, while continuing to play a key role in Basel’s attacking setup.
The Cherries are not alone in their interest. Crystal Palace and Birmingham City are also reported to be monitoring Otele’s situation, with clubs in Spain, Germany and France — including Sevilla, Stuttgart, Nice and Borussia Mönchengladbach — keeping a close watch.
Sources indicate that Otele would welcome a move to the Premier League, although Basel are expected to demand a significant fee. The Swiss side are believed to value the forward at up to €10m, reflecting his growing influence since his permanent arrival.
With Semenyo’s future unresolved, Bournemouth’s transfer plans remain fluid, and Otele’s name is likely to feature prominently as the January window approaches.
