Calvin Bassey says Nigeria will not become complacent after booking their place in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Mozambique.

The Super Eagles swept aside the Mambas in the last-16 clash, with Victor Osimhen scoring twice and Ademola Lookman and Adam Akor also on target.

The win also marked Nigeria’s first clean sheet of the tournament, having conceded in each of their previous three matches, with Fulham defender Bassey playing a key role at the back.

Paul Onuachu hails Nigeria’s big win over Mozambique at AFCON 2025

“It was a good game and we are delighted to be through to the next round,” Bassey told reporters in the mixed zone. “We scored goals and everyone has been talking about the clean sheet. It was important that we achieved that today and we’re happy with the performance.”

Bassey added that the team is improving with each match at the tournament:

“We are happy with what we are doing, we keep getting better and we will try to improve with every game.”

Nigeria will face either DR Congo or Algeria in the quarter-finals, but Bassey insists the team will be prepared regardless of the opponent.

“We have to relax after a good game and then get ready for the next opponent. It doesn’t matter if it’s Congo or Algeria – we have to be ready,” he said.

Nigeria have now scored 10 goals at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations and will be targeting another victory as they continue their push for the title.
