Nigerian striker Bala Imamu has completed a move to Israeli second-division club Hapoel Rishon Lezion, securing his first professional contract abroad.
Speaking exclusively to Footy-Arica after signing the deal, Imamu expressed his delight at finally achieving a dream he has held since childhood.
“It has always been my dream to play in Europe, and finally, I can fulfil my dream as a young child,” the striker said. “Most times, it is not easy for us as Africans with big dreams of playing on the biggest stage, but each dream starts with a step.”
“A lot has happened in a short while, but I do not want to dwell on it because the past is the past, and I am already looking towards the future. For me, the most important thing is putting on the shirt of my new team and giving my best for the club and the fans.”
“I want to win with them and hopefully win titles and trophies with my new teammates. It is a new challenge for me, but I am looking forward to it.”
The 20-year-old forward joins the Israeli side from Nigeria’s Wikki Tourists after impressing club officials during their visit to the country.
Imamu, who can operate in several attacking positions, was expected to make the move to Europe last season, with clubs in Scandinavia showing interest in his services.
However, the proposed deal failed to materialise, leaving the youngster to continue his development in Nigeria.
That setback has now been followed by a significant breakthrough, with Rishon LeZion deciding to offer him the opportunity to begin his professional career in Europe.
The move represents an important step in Bala’s career as he begins life in Israeli football.
The young forward, who had previously been disappointed by a transfer offer, will be looking to make a big impact at Hapoel Rishon LeZion to become a regular feature in the club’s attacking play.
