Ghana’s newly appointed head coach, Carlos Queiroz, has made it clear that his tenure with the Black Stars will be defined by one overriding objective, making a strong impact at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The veteran Portuguese tactician was officially introduced on Thursday in Accra, stepping into the role after the dismissal of Otto Addo. His arrival signals a fresh direction for the national team following a difficult run of performances.

Ghana’s journey at the global showpiece is set to begin with a clash against Panama, before stern tests against England and Croatia round off their group stage fixtures. It is a challenging path, but Queiroz appears undeterred.

Speaking during his unveiling at the Alisa Hotel, the 73-year-old emphasized that all his energy is already being channeled toward the tournament.

“In this moment, 99.9% of my focus is on success at the World Cup,” he said.

Queiroz brings with him decades of elite-level experience across both club and international football. His résumé includes time on the bench at giants like Real Madrid and a notable spell working alongside Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

On the international stage, he has taken charge of several nations, including Portugal and Iran, building a reputation for discipline and tactical organization.

His World Cup pedigree is equally extensive, from guiding South Africa to qualification for the 2002 edition to steering Portugal into the knockout rounds in 2010 and leading Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 tournaments.
