Christantus Uche is expected to return to Getafe this summer after a frustrating loan spell at Crystal Palace, with the Nigerian forward now facing an uncertain future as interest in his services begins to grow once again, Footy-Africa understands.

A source close to the player exclusively told Footy-Africa.com that while the Palace move did not work out as hoped, Uche remains focused and is already looking ahead to the next chapter of his career.

“It is unfortunate what happened during his loan spell at Palace because I believe he was not given enough opportunity to show what he can do,” the source said. “I spoke with him yesterday, and he told me everything is now in the past. He is looking forward to better things in the future.”

The source also revealed that Uche had no shortage of admirers before his move to England and could once again attract interest this summer.

“If you remember, there were a few clubs that wanted to sign him last year, but Uche always wanted to play in the Premier League, so he chose the Palace option. AC Milan wanted him at the time and Wolves were also interested, but he picked Palace and it did not work out. I believe Milan could return for him because they still rate him highly.”

There is also believed to be interest from within Spain, with Real Betis reportedly monitoring the situation, although Getafe may be reluctant to strengthen a domestic rival.

“There is also another club in Spain, I think it is Real Betis, that are looking at him, but I do not think Getafe will be willing to sell him to another Spanish side,” the source added.

With the summer transfer window still in its early stages, the player’s camp believes a move remains more likely than not.

“There is still a long way to go before the transfer window closes, but Uche probably has a 70 percent chance of being sold to another club. Getafe need the money and the player wants a fresh challenge. We just have to wait and see how it all plays out.”

Uche’s future has been the subject of intense speculation in recent weeks following his difficult spell at Selhurst Park, where he found himself frozen out of the squad towards the end of the season.

The 23-year-old made an encouraging start after joining Palace at the beginning of the campaign and showed flashes of quality, particularly in the UEFA Europa Conference League. One of the standout moments of his season came when he scored a stunning trivela effort against Finnish side KuPS Kuopio, a strike that was widely regarded as one of the goals of the competition.

Despite that bright beginning, Uche struggled to establish himself in Oliver Glasner’s Premier League plans. The Austrian manager never appeared fully convinced by the Nigerian’s suitability for the demands of English top-flight football, and Uche went on to make just 14 appearances in all competitions, registering only one assist.

Crystal Palace eventually decided against making the move permanent. Under the terms of the agreement, Palace would have been required to pay โ‚ฌ20 million if Uche started 10 Premier League matches, but that threshold was never reached.

With his deal at Palace set to expire in the coming days, Uche is now expected to report back to Getafe, where the Spanish club are prepared to reintegrate him into the squad. However, they are also believed to be open to offers for the forward if the right proposal arrives.

Reports in Spain suggest Getafe may once again look to cash in on the Nigerian as they prepare for another season in La Liga after finishing a respectable seventh last term.

For now, Uche will return to Spain with a point to prove and several big decisions ahead.
