Gambian international Ebrima Darboe has officially completed a move to Serie B club Bari FC, signing a permanent deal that will keep him at the club until 2028.

The 23-year-old midfielder departs AS Roma after six years with the Giallorossi, marking the end of a significant chapter in his young career.

Speaking exclusively with Footy-Africa, after his move was confirmed, Darboe expressed both gratitude and optimism:

“I am excited to finally try a new chapter in a new home. I am grateful to AS Roma for all the opportunities and support over the years. I am looking forward to the future and what I can bring to Bari to help them gain momentum for a promotion to Serie A.”

His signing represents a strong statement of intent from Bari, who are aiming to rebuild and push for promotion after a mixed campaign last season. Darboe’s experience at the top level, combined with his hunger and professionalism, will be a valuable asset in the midfield as the club eyes a return to Italy’s top flight.

The transfer was finalized as a free move, although AS Roma has secured a future sell-on clause, ensuring they benefit financially should Bari choose to move Darboe on in the future, Footy-Africa can confirm.

Darboe, who first joined Roma’s youth ranks in 2017 after arriving in Italy as a refugee, rose through the club’s academy and made his senior debut in 2021. He quickly earned plaudits for his composure on the ball, tactical intelligence, and maturity beyond his years. His development was briefly hampered by a serious knee injury in 2022, but he has since worked his way back to full fitness and match form.

Still only 23, Darboe has already represented The Gambia at international level, playing a key role in the country’s historic run to the Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals in 2021. His move to Bari is seen as an opportunity for regular first-team football and a fresh start to fully reignite his career.

As Bari prepares for the upcoming season, all eyes will be on how Darboe integrates into the squad — and whether his arrival can help catalyse the club’s ambitions of climbing back to Serie A.
