Swedish side IF Elfsborg have renewed their interest in Kenyan international midfielder Marvin Nabwire after a failed attempt to sign him during the January transfer window, Footy-Africa has exclusively learned.
The 29-year-old, who has played for Kenya Police FC in the Kenya Premier League for the past three years, had reached personal terms with Elfsborg earlier this year, but the two clubs failed to agree on a transfer fee.
Nabwire will become a free agent in June 2025, which could now ease Elfsborg’s pursuit.
A source at ACFA, Nabwire’s representatives, disclosed that the versatile midfielder is set to receive €50,000 (around 7,000,000 Kenyan Shillings) as a signing bonus and monthly wages of €30,000 (about 4,000,000 Kenyan Shillings). These are the same terms that had been agreed upon during the initial talks in January.
“Nabwire was close to joining Elfsborg in January until Kenya Police made demands that were beyond the Swedish club’s reach. Now that he’s a free agent, Elfsborg have returned with similar personal terms. The player is eager to move, and once the agency fee is sorted, it will be touch and go,” the source exclusively told Footy-Africa.
Nabwire made 26 appearances in the Kenya Premier League and the CAF Confederation Cup for Kenya Police in the recently concluded season, contributing nine goals and six assists. He previously played for Kenyan giants AFC Leopards.
On the international stage, Nabwire debuted for the Kenya national senior team (Harambee Stars) in 2018 and has since earned 13 caps, scoring one goal and registering two assists.
