Danish SuperLiga side FC Midtjylland have strengthened their long-standing Nigerian talent pipeline with the signing of highly rated youngster Olashile Lawal from FC Ebiede for an undisclosed fee, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.

The 18-year-old forward becomes the latest graduate of the renowned Nigerian academy to make the move to Denmark, following in the footsteps of established stars such as Frank Onyeka and Paul Onuachu, who both used the route as a springboard to successful European careers.

Lawal has been regarded as one of the brightest prospects within the FC Ebiede setup and had attracted interest from several clubs. However, FC Midtjylland exercised their long-standing relationship with the Nigerian outfit to secure the youngster’s signature.

The striker is expected to begin his journey with FC Midtjylland’s U-19 side, where club officials believe he possesses the potential to eventually break into the first team.

Speaking exclusively to Footy-Africa, a source close to the FC Ebiede hierarchy described Lawal as one of the academy’s most exciting talents and backed him to make a major impact in Europe.

“FC Ebiede’s relationship with FC Midtjylland is a mutually beneficial one. We serve as the African feeder club for the Danish side and have worked together successfully for many years,” the source said.

“We also receive support from Midtjylland in the form of training equipment, kits, and grants, which help reduce some of the operational costs of running the academy.”

The source believes Lawal possesses the qualities required to emulate and possibly surpass – some of the academy’s most successful exports.

“Olashile Lawal is a great player in the making, and we believe he can be as successful as the players we have produced before him. He is a top talent and has all the attributes to go very far in the game. He plays in a similar style to Paul Onuachu, but I genuinely believe he can become an even better forward if he continues to work hard and remains focused on his development.”

Lawal will follow a pathway that has proven successful for several Nigerian players who started in Midtjylland’s youth ranks before progressing to senior football.

“He is going to begin with the youth team, just as Femi Ajilore, Paul Onuachu, Frank Onyeka, Raphael Onyedika, Jamal Olaide and Odekunle Misiliu did before him. It is a long-term deal for the youngster, and we are hoping for great things from him in the future.”

FC Midtjylland’s commitment to identifying and developing Nigerian talent has become one of the defining features of the club’s recruitment strategy.

Through its dedicated Nigerian operations, spearheaded by Head of FCM Nigeria Jonas Dal, the Danish club has maintained a strong presence in the country for more than a decade.

That strategy has yielded remarkable results, producing players who have gone on to establish themselves at the highest levels of European football.

With Lawal now embarking on the same journey, both FC Ebiede and FC Midtjylland will be hoping they have unearthed another future star.
