Highly-rated Ghanaian central midfielder Michael Dwamena Kyei is close to securing a move to Belarusian Premier League side FC Minsk, Footy Africa has exclusively learned.
The 25-year-old is set to become a free agent on June 30, when his contract with Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko FC officially expires. FC Minsk have already opened talks with the midfielder and are aiming to complete the deal ahead of interest from other European clubs.
According to a source close to the player, Minsk have submitted a three-year contract offer and discussions are ongoing regarding personal terms, including salary and sign-on fees.
“Michael (Kyei) has a solid three-year offer from Minsk, and the discussions are now focused on the sign-on fees and salary,” the source told Footy Africa.
“Asante Kotoko also expressed interest in renewing his deal, but for now, he’s prioritizing the negotiations with Minsk. His dream has always been to play professional football in Europe, and this is a big opportunity.”
Kyei has featured in 25 league matches for Asante Kotoko this season, scoring once and providing three assists. Known for his strength, versatility, and tactical awareness, the Ghanaian midfielder is seen as a valuable addition to FC Minsk’s midfield setup.
Since joining Asante Kotoko from WAFA SC ahead of the 2023/24 season, Kyei has made 47 appearances in all competitions, contributing two goals and five assists. During his time at WAFA, he played 26 matches, registering one goal and one assist.
Though yet to debut for Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, a move to Europe could significantly boost his international prospects.
