Turkish champions Galatasaray are closing in on the signing of Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika, having reached a deal with Club Brugge this month.
The Lions were previously interested in a deal for the Super Eagles midfielder last summer, but a deal could not be agreed by both clubs over differences in their valuation.
The Belgian club have accepted a fee of around €23 million for the sale of Onyedika, who will sign an initial four-year contract, which could potentially keep him at his new club until 2030 with the option of an additional year. He is also expected to receive about €1 million annually.
Galatasaray have been long-term admirers of the 24-year-old, who have become an integral part of Club Brugge’s setup since his arrival at the club with his ability to break up opposition play and make late attacking runs into the box.
Transfer fee and contract details
Galatasaray have agreed to pay a fee of around €23 million to complete the transfer of the Nigerian midfielder this month. The fee is €2 million below the €25 million valuation set by Club Brugge, who have reached an agreement with the Turkish club after days of negotiation.
The defensive midfielder will sign an initial four-year deal at the RAMS Park, which also includes the option of an additional year and could potentially keep him at the club until 2031.
Raphael Onyedika set for Galatasaray switch after breakthrough talks
The 24-year-old was also subject of interest from English Premier League side West Ham United, but will now join his new teammates in Turkey after Nigeria’s participation at the ongoing African Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco.
How much will Onyedika earn at Galatasaray
Raphael Onyedika is expected to earn around €19,232 per week, taking his annual earnings to around €1 million excluding bonuses and incentives.
Galatasaray’s total investments in his services could exceed €28 million, making him a key signing at a very reasonable fee
From Brugge to Istanbul
Onyedika moved to Club Brugge in 2022 and has become a very important part of the Belgian club, making over 100 appearances for them.
The defensive midfielder is poised for a move to Turkey, where he could team up with compatriot Victor Osimhen and strengthen Galatasaray’s midfield as they defend their league title and compete in Europe this season.
