Germany vs Luxembourg Match Preview

Germany head into the clash in third position in Group A, with three points from their first two matches. They suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat in Slovakia in their opening match, but bounced back a few days later to beat Northern Ireland 3-1 in their second group match. With only the first position in each group assured of an automatic slot, Die Mannschaft must avoid any further slip-ups to avoid an early exit from the qualifying rounds and qualify for a 19th straight appearance.

Luxembourg, on the other hand, have never played at the FIFA World Cup and have struggled in matches against high-profile opponents. They lost both of their first two qualifying games, going down 3-1 to Northern Ireland and 1-0 to Slovakia. The Red Lions head into the clash against Germany, hoping to secure an unlikely win that will dampen their opponents hopes.

The Germans have dominated their opponents in recent outings and have claimed big wins in their last two meetings. They have also managed multiple goals in seven of their last nine home qualifying matches, while Luxembourg have failed to score in four of their last five qualifiers on the road.

Recent Form: Germany

Die Mannschaft have been relatively inconsistent in recent outings and have only won one of their last five matches in all competitions.

The Germans have only been defeated twice in their last seven matches at home, while they failed to score just once in that period.

Recent Form: Luxembourg

Luxembourg are on a very poor run of form, with only one victory in their last 14 matches in all competitions. They have also lost four of their last five matches.

On the road, the Red Lions have only claimed one win in their last seven, finding the back of the net in two of these matches.

Player to Watch: Karim Adeyemi (Germany)

German forward of Nigerian descent Karim Adeyemi heads into the tie as one of the most in-form players for his side, having contributed to six goals from eight appearances this season.

His blistering pace and runs into the box will be a major threat against the Luxembourg defence.

Prediction

Germany’s superior quality and dominant record against Luxembourg should make this a comfortable win, as they aim to get their campaign back on track.
