Ghana midfielder Kwasi Sibo completes Al-Swehly move after passing medical

Ghana midfielder Kwasi Sibo has completed his move to Libyan champions Al-Swehly after passing his medical examination in Cairo and signing his contract, Footy-Africa can confirm.

Sibo completed the final formalities on Monday after arriving in the Egyptian capital, where Al-Swehly are currently based for their pre-season preparations ahead of a campaign that will include participation in the CAF Champions League.

The 28-year-old has agreed a lucrative package worth $10 million over three years, with the initial agreement covering two years and an option for a third season that is expected to be activated.

Sibo has already received half of the total package upfront, a move designed to provide protection given concerns surrounding the payment history of some North African clubs on high-value contracts.

As first reported by Footy-Africa, Sibo had been considering the Al-Swehly proposal for several weeks but waited until the final stages of the transfer window before making a decision.

He carefully assessed several alternatives, including Turkish side Gençlerbirliği, Egyptian giants Al Ahly, French club Troyes, MLS side Austin FC, and Greek outfit PAOK.

The financial terms offered by Al-Swehly ultimately proved decisive, with Sibo choosing to accept the biggest offer on the table.

The defensive midfielder parted ways with Spanish side Real Oviedo this summer after it had already been agreed midway through last season that he would not sign a new contract.

Sibo was determined to secure a more lucrative contract for the next stage of his career and has now secured one of the biggest deals of his career.

He is expected to be unveiled as an Al-Swehly player after completing the final formalities in Cairo.

Sibo’s move also represents a major change in direction after he established himself in Spain and represented Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he featured in four matches.

The Ghana international now begins a new chapter in Libya, with Al-Swehly preparing for both domestic competition and their CAF Champions League campaign.
