Following his exit from Ghana Premier League side Samartex FC, forward Seidu Abubakar is on the verge of reaching an agreement with Lithuanian top-flight side FK Riteriai over a move, Footy-Africa has exclusively learned.

Abubakar, 24, exited Samartex after the expiry of his contract. The player and the club mutually agreed against renewing, and was subsequently officially released on Monday. The development happened as the striker was in the middle of negotiations with Riteriai over a possible deal.

A source close to the player has exclusively confirmed the developments:

“Seidu (Abubakar) has been respectful to Samartex, at the time he decided that he wouldn’t be staying. The offer from Riteriai has existed for weeks, and he gave them priority from the onset. He wants the deal, and it’s moving positively. It’s most likely that he will sign the deal before the end of the week, on a three-year contract.”

Meanwhile, the player, whose Transfermarkt valuation is estimated at €25,000, has been at Samartex for the past three years, playing there throughout his early 20s. Last season, despite limitations through injury, he played 16 matches across the Ghanaian Premier League and the CAF Champions League qualifiers, netting thrice with five assists.

In the 2023/24 season, Abubakar played 13 games and netted twice, with injuries yet again curbing his progress. The attacker, who can also play as a winger, netted seven times with two assists in the 2022/23 campaign. In the past, he has featured for Ebusua Dwarfs FC, as he netted 12 goals with five assists in 31 games.

Meanwhile, at the international stage, Abubakar has represented Ghana previously in the U17 team. However, he has yet to receive a cap with the senior national team, The Black Stars.
