Greek Super League side OFI Crete FC have made contact with Kenyan international defender Sylvester Owino over a potential move in the upcoming summer transfer window, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
The Greek outfit have made their intentions clear, expressing strong interest in signing the 24-year-old, who is set to become a free agent on June 30. His contract with reigning Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia FC is due to expire, and the player is keen on a move to Europe.
Speaking exclusively to Footy-Africa, a source close to the player confirmed the approach from OFI Crete. The source further emphasized the right-backβs desire to secure a first move to Europe rather than extend his stay with Gor Mahia.
βThere have been direct talks between Crete and Sylvester Owino this past week, with the Greeks looking to sign him on a three-year contract. His deal at Gor Mahia ends this week, and he prefers a move to Europe over renewing in Kenya. Heβs determined to make the move, but it will ultimately depend on whether they can agree on financial terms,β the source told Footy-Africa.
Owino has enjoyed three strong seasons at Gor Mahia, making 82 appearances across all competitions, including in the 2024/25 CAF Champions League qualifiers. He has established himself as arguably the best right-back in the Kenya Premier League.
At international level, since making his debut in 2024, Owino has earned eight competitive caps for the Kenya senior national team, the Harambee Stars, and has registered one assist.
