Ghanaian winger Joseph Opoku has given the green light to join Championship side Swansea City after the Welsh club reached an agreement with Belgian outfit Zulte Waregem, sources have told Footy-Africa.
The 20-year-old is understood to have been convinced by the opportunity to play in England, with Swansea set to secure his signature on a long-term contract.
Opoku is expected to travel to Austria in the coming days to undergo a medical, where head coach Vítor Matos and his squad are currently holding their pre-season training camp. The deal will be completed once the medical and final paperwork are concluded.
Swansea fought off competition from Hull City, Genoa, Trabzonspor, Krasnodar and Real Sociedad, all of whom had expressed concrete interest following the winger’s outstanding campaign in Belgium.
After joining Zulte Waregem from Great Corinthians FC in 2024, Opoku developed into one of the Belgian Pro League’s standout performers, registering 10 goals and 16 assists during the 2025/26 season. His displays earned him the league’s Player of the Month award for April 2026.
The Ghana international made his senior debut against Mexico earlier this year and was later named in Carlos Queiroz’s provisional squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
