Ghana legend and former goalkeeper Richard Kingson has backed his country-mate Muhammed Kudus to take the English Premier League by storm, following his pending switch from West Ham to North Londoners Tottenham Hotspur.

He made the remarks in the wake of the news of a €64 million (£55 million) agreement between West Ham and Tottenham for the transfer. The 24-year-old will cross over to the white side of London, who also offer UEFA Champions League football next season.

In an exclusive interview with The Footy-Africa, Kingson, 47, revealed that the move to Tottenham is a reflection of a bigger leap in his career, as it offers him a chance to compete at higher levels across the Premier League and on the continent.

“It’s the best deal he could get at the moment given all the dynamics involved and I think it’s the right one,” Kingson, who played in the Premier League for Wigan, Birmingham and Blackpool, said, before adding: “It offers him a real opportunity to compete for bigger things. He’s an incredibly talented player, with special abilities on the ball, and given the way Tottenham love to play, the pointers are that he’ll excel at Tottenham. He walks into that team and he’s assured of a place, so all he needs to do is to stay humble and keep working hard.”

“It’s really a good decision for him to stay in the Premier League, as he tries to stamp real authority there. The fact that he’s joining a competing team is also good for the national team, as they’ll definitely be seeing a better player,” the former Black Star, who made 93 caps, remarked.

Kudus joined West Ham at the start of the 2023/2024 season from Ajax and has since played a total of 80 games, scoring 18 goals with 10 assists.

He has previously been linked to moves to English Premier League giants Arsenal, Newcastle, Liverpool and Manchester United, as well as moves to the Saudi Arabia with Al Nassr and Al Ittihad interested, but it’s Tottenham that have won the race.
