Premier League champions Liverpool are reportedly exploring the possibility of a move for Yan Diomande ahead of the summer transfer window, amid the imminent departure of Mohamed Salah at the end of the season.

The Reds announced that Salah would leave the club at the end of the current campaign after they both came to an agreement over an early release from his contract, ending a very successful nine-year stint which brought long-term success at the club.

Liverpool have now begun planning for life after the Egyptian and they have already set their sights on Diomande as their top target for attacking reinforcements as they look to challenge back for the league title after a troubled season.

Diomande profile

The 19-year-old has become one of the most-sought after wingers in Europe currently after enjoying a breakthrough campaign with RB Leipzig in the German Bundesliga.

The Ivory Coast winger joined the Red Bulls club last summer after his €20 million release clause was triggered from Spanish side Leganes and he has enjoyed a remarkable campaign so far.

Diomande has scored 11 goals and provided eight assists across all competitions this season and has drawn interest from several top European heavyweights including Manchester United and Chelsea.

The young attacker can play efficiently across both flanks and will slot in perfectly on the right flank for the departing Salah, while he can also be productive on the left side of the attack.

Per Transfermarkt, Diomande is currently worth around €75 million, which places him as the most valuable Ivorian footballer in the world and the third most valuable player from the German Bundesliga.

However, RB Leipzig are believed to be demanding for a fee in the region of €100 million with about four years left on the player’s contract, although that fee could reduce if the club miss out on qualification for next season’s Champions League.

Liverpool previously tried to sign the 19-year-old during the winter transfer window. However, the Reds decided to wait until the summer to pursue a deal and could now spend above €100 million, including transfer fees and wages, to acquire the services of the Ivory Coast winger, which would place him among one of the most expensive additions in the club’s history.
