New FC Lorient head coach Alexandre Dujeux has blocked any potential move for Ghanaian defender Nathaniel Adjei despite growing interest from clubs in Spain, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
Sources close to the player say Adjei had been open to leaving the French club this summer in search of regular first-team football. However, Dujeux has been impressed by the 23-year-old’s performances during pre-season and has made it clear he wants the centre-back to remain part of his plans.
The French manager has effectively vetoed any sale, with Lorient only expected to reconsider their position if they receive an exceptional offer that reflects the defender’s long-term value.
Adjei joined Lorient on a permanent deal in 2024 and still has two years remaining on his contract. His first two seasons in France were disrupted by a serious injury, limiting his opportunities to establish himself in the team.
Since returning to full fitness, however, the former Hammarby defender has shown encouraging signs and has impressed the coaching staff with his performances in training and pre-season matches.
Sources indicate that Dujeux believes Adjei has the attributes to become an important member of the squad as Lorient prepare for the new campaign, prompting the club to resist interest from Spain.
Currently valued at around €1.5 million, Adjei is now expected to remain at Lorient unless a substantial offer arrives before the close of the transfer window.
