Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have completed the signing of Gabon international goalkeeper Loyce Mbaba, with the experienced shot-stopper putting pen to paper on a three-year contract ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
The acquisition underlines the Venoms’ ambition as they continue strengthening every department of the squad before a season that promises to test the club on several fronts. Vipers are set to compete in the CAF Champions League, Uganda Premier League, Uganda Cup and the CECAFA Kagame Cup.
At 28, Mbaba brings a wealth of experience accumulated across Central and West African football. The Gabon international has previously represented Mangasport in his homeland before enjoying spells in Ivory Coast with Stella Club and Bouake FC, establishing himself as a reliable presence between the posts.
His pedigree extends beyond club football. Mbaba has made 14 competitive appearances for the Gabon national team and was part of the squad that competed at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, featuring in three matches during the tournament.
The move comes as Vipers overhaul their goalkeeping department following the exits of Alfred Mudekereza and Bashir Ssekagya. With two senior goalkeepers departing, the club moved swiftly to secure an experienced replacement capable of adding quality and competition.
Mbaba is now expected to challenge Denis Kiggundu and Jack Komakech for the starting role as Vipers prepare for a packed fixture schedule across domestic and continental competitions.
His arrival also continues an active recruitment drive by the Kitende-based side. Mbaba becomes Vipers’ fourth signing of the ongoing transfer window after the club secured the services of Jacques Mangoba, Nicholas Mwere and Joel Sserunjogi as preparations intensify for another title defence and a return to continental football.
