Gambian international Musa Barrow has completed a free transfer to Saudi Pro League side Al-Khaleej following the expiration of his contract with fellow top-flight club Al-Taawoun FC, Footy-Africa can exclusively report.
The move concludes weeks of uncertainty surrounding the Scorpions talisman’s future after lengthy negotiations over a possible contract renewal with Al-Taawoun failed to produce an agreement.
Al-Taawoun had made a determined effort to retain the 26-year-old forward, inviting him to a crucial meeting with club management last Monday at the request of newly appointed head coach Žarko Lazetić, who viewed Barrow as a key part of his plans for the upcoming season.
However, discussions ultimately broke down over financial terms. While the club sought to reduce the Gambian international’s salary as part of a new deal, Barrow was unwilling to accept the proposed pay cut, paving the way for his departure as a free agent.
Al-Khaleej moved swiftly to secure the services of one of the Saudi Pro League’s most consistent attacking players, completing the signing after Barrow successfully passed his medical examination. The development also puts to rest recent speculation suggesting the striker had failed his medical.

Barrow leaves Al-Taawoun after an outstanding two-year spell that began with his €6 million transfer from Italian side Bologna ahead of the 2023/24 season. During his time with the club, he made 79 appearances in all competitions, scoring 30 goals and providing a series of influential performances that helped establish him as one of the league’s leading foreign attackers.
Although his most recent campaign was disrupted by injury, the Gambian captain’s quality and experience ensured he remained one of the most sought-after free agents in the Saudi market.
The move to Al-Khaleej offers Barrow a fresh challenge while allowing him to remain in the Saudi Pro League, where he has built an impressive reputation since arriving from Serie A.
