Footy-Africa can exclusively report that Southampton and Coventry City target Prosper Obah is fully focused on his successful campaign with Shakhtar Donetsk, despite mounting speculation regarding a move to England.
The 22-year-old Nigerian forward has been instrumental in Shakhtar’s Ukrainian Premier League title win, sparking interest from several English clubs. Obah’s impressive form—8 goals and 2 assists in just 15 matches during the title run-in—has reportedly placed him on the radar of a trio of English sides: Southampton, Coventry City, and Middlesbrough.
Speaking exclusively with Footy-Africa, a source close to the player dismissed rumors of an immediate exit, emphasizing that Obah is savoring his recent achievements.
”It is not the time to talk about the future, especially after the amazing season he has had,” the source stated. “Prosper is relaxed and very calm about everything. We are all incredibly proud of the progress he has made since leaving Nigeria for Europe.”
Remarkable journey
Obah’s rise to the top of Ukrainian football is a testament to his resilience. Raised in Umuahia, he began his career at Supreme Kings FC, a local academy far removed from the spotlight of European scouts.
His European odyssey began in 2022 when, at age 18, he moved to Portugal to join Vizela’s youth setup. While he showed flashes of undeniable quality in Portugal, a consistent breakthrough into senior football remained elusive.
His fortunes changed following a move to Ukraine. Obah first made waves with LNZ Cherkasy, netting 10 goals and catching the eye of the country’s biggest clubs. Shakhtar Donetsk moved quickly to secure his signature in January 2026.
Agent dismisses exit rumours as Prosper Obah focuses on FC Shakhtar future
Since arriving in Donetsk, Obah has not only conquered the domestic league but also shone on the continental stage, helping Shakhtar reach the UEFA Europa Conference League semifinals, where they were eventually edged out by Premier League side Crystal Palace.
With the transfer window approaching, Obah’s stock continues to rise, but for now, the Umuahia-born star seems content with his life in Ukraine.
