The English Premier League is widely considered as the most competitive club football league, with millions of fans across the world.

Several generations of African talents have left their mark on the league over the years, with many more still making historic feats.

Mohamed Salah continues to rewrite record as the highest-scoring African in the league, but who are the other African greats that complete the top five list? Here are the top five highest goalscoring African footballers in EPL history.

  • Didier Drogba (104 goals)
  • Emmanuel Adebayor (97 goals)

Mohamed Salah (190 goals)

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah unsurprisingly takes the top spot on this list with 190 Premier League goals and stands as the only active player in the league among the top five. The Egyptian superstar first featured for Chelsea, where he scored only two times in the EPL in an underwhelming spell.

Salah moved to Liverpool in 2017 and has gone on to add 188 more strikes to his tally, moving him into fourth in the all-time rankings.

The 33-year-old also has the second most appearances by an African Player (311), the most assists by an African player (89) and the most golden boots by an African player with four.

Sadio Mane (111 goals)

Salah’s ex-teammate Sadio Mane scored 111 goals in 263 appearances, ranking him second on this list. The Senegal captain played for Southampton between 2014 and 2026, scoring 21 times for the Saints in the EPL.

Mane then joined Liverpool in 2016, where he scored 90 times from 196 appearances in the league to take his tally to 111.

The two-time African footballer of the year winner also won one EPL golden boot in the 2018-19 season, when he shared the award with Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Didier Drogba (104 goals)

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba ranks as Africa’s third-highest goalscorer in EPL history with 104 goals, coming from 254 appearances.

The Ivorian scored 100 goals in his first spell at the Blues, before returning for a second stint in 2014, where he added four more to his tally.

Drogba also won two EPL golden boot awards and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2022.

Emmanuel Adebayor (97 goals)

Former Togo captain Emmanuel Adebayor is fourth on this list with 97 goals coming from 242 appearances across spells for four different clubs.

He first made a name for himself in England with Arsenal, where he netted 46 times in the league, before moving to Manchester City.

Adebayor also played for Tottenham Hotspur and ended his Premier League campaign playing for Crystal Palace, where he scored only once from 12 league games.

Yakubu Aiyegbeni (96 goals)

Yakubu Aiyegbeni is Nigeria’s highest goalscorer in EPL history and ranks as fifth on the all-time Africa’s chart.

Nicknamed ‘the Yak’, the Super Eagles legend enjoyed a successful goalscoring career in England with spells for the likes of Portsmouth, Everton, Middlesbrough, Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers.

Aiyegbeni is also Portsmouth top-scorer in the English Premier League, having netted 28 times for the club in just two seasons.
