Turkey top-flight outfit Samsunspor FC have dropped out of the race to sign Nigerian international and forward Umar Sadiq, following outrageous financial demands from Spanish La Liga side Real Sociedad, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.

Samsunspor had made their intentions clear and inquired about the player’s contract situation, as they wanted to sign the 28-year-old, whose contract at Real Sociedad runs until 2028. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Valencia.

Exclusively speaking to Footy-Africa, a source close to AS1, who represent the player’s business, has revealed that Samsunspor have decided to look for options elsewhere after Real Sociedad demanded for €5 million, a fee they consider too high.

β€œThere were direct talks between Samsunspor and Real Sociedad regarding Umar Sadiq on Friday, but they chose to immediately cut them short after a €5 million demand. Samsunspor have made it clear that the sums don’t fit their financial standards, and will only return to the talks if the fee is lowered,” the source exclusively revealed to Footy-Africa.

On loan at Valencia last season, Sadiq made 19 appearances and grabbed six goals. Across two-and-a-half seasons at Real Sociedad, he has played 50 games across all competitions, scoring four times, with two assists. Previously, he played for UD Almeria, featuring 84 times with 43 goals and 13 assists.

At the international stage, since his debut in 2022, he has made 12 competitive appearances with one goal for the Nigerian Senior National team, The Super Eagles. He also played six times for Nigeria U23, netting four goals.
