Nigerian goalkeeper Kayode Bankole completed a move to South African outfit TS Galaxy from Remo Stars, becoming the latest player to make a switch away from the Nigerian Premier Football League.

The young goalkeeper joined the Rockets on a free transfer, following the expiration of his contract at the Nigeria league champions and has penned a two-year deal at his new club, where he is expected to receive a significant pay rise.

Kayode Bankole has become the latest Nigerian goalkeeper to move to the South African league, following in the footsteps of William Okpara, Gregory Etafia, Daniel Akpeyi, and current Super Eagles first-choice, Stanley Nwabali.

The 23-year-old began his senior career at Remo Stars, where he spent five years before his departure. He was named the goalkeeper of the season for the 2023-24 campaign and played a key role in the club’s league title triumph in the 2024-25 season.

TS Galaxy have completed the signing of the Nigerian shot-stopper, who joins on a free transfer after his contract expired at Remo Stars.

The South African club beat other suitors in the league to the signature of the exciting young goalkeeper, who will provide healthy competition for Ivorian Ira Tape for the number one spot.

Salary breakdown

Kayode Bankole previously earned about £136 per week at Remo Stars and will earn a significant pay upgrade, amounting to over £544 per month and £7,072 annually.

The 23-year-old’s total earnings is expected to exceed over £14,144 throughout the course of the two-year contract he signed at the club.

The goalkeeper is a very valuable addition to the squad, especially comparing the club’s total investments to his quality.

From Nigeria to South Africa

Kayode Bankole began his senior career at Remo Stars, following a brief stint at Shooting Stars in the Nigerian Premier Football League.

The young goalkeeper became a regular in the squad and was very influential in their rise to success, winning the 2024/25 NPFL title.

Now set for a fresh path, he hopes to follow in the footsteps of former Nigerian goalkeepers to have made the switch abroad and potentially become a future contender for the national team’s number one spot.
