Following his exit from Ethiopian heavyweights Saint George SC, central defender Gift Fred is moments away from joining 13-time Uganda Premier League champions KCCA FC, Footy-Africa sources have exclusively learned.
Fred is currently a free agent after his contract with Saint George ran down at the end of the 2024/25 season. KCCA have held concrete interest and subsequent negotiations in the past week, as they aim to sign him as Mustafa Mujuzi’s successor, as the latter joined Gaddafi FC.
Shafick Kiyaga, the Head of Communications at Prosper Sports Agency, exclusively revealed to Footy-Africa that the 27-year-old defender has already accepted KCCA’s project, and the two now hold an agreement in principle. He is set to put pen to paper on a two-year contract at the Kampala-based club.
“There has been tense talks over the past week ever since Mustafa Mujuzi left the club, with KCCA keen on having Gift Fred as his replacement. A breakthrough was found on Wednesday, and will sign with them earlier next week after the medical tests scheduled for Saturday. He’ll also receive decent pay in terms of sign-on bonuses and wages from KCCA,” Kiyaga exclusively told Footy-Africa.
Fred spent one campaign at Saint George, as he played 18 times. Before, he featured for African powerhouse Young Africans SC, where he played five games across the Tanzanian Premier League and the CAF Champions League. Before his spell in Tanzania, the defender captained Uganda Premier League record holders SC Villa for two seasons. He has also previously featured for FUFA Big League side Booma FC.
Meanwhile, at the international level, Fred, who debuted with the Uganda Cranes in 2022, has amassed eight competitive caps. He featured in Uganda’s failed qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, but missed out in the successful 2025 continental qualification campaign.
