Spanish club Valencia completed a permanent deal for Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq earlier in the transfer window, bringing the striker back to the club six months after his departure.

The Super Eagles forward joined Los Che on an initial loan deal from Real Sociedad in January 2025 and spent the remainder of the 2024-25 season at the club, scoring six times from 19 appearances. Both clubs could not agree a permanent deal in the summer, as Sadiq returned to his parent club.

However, he now returns to the Mestalla after a fee in the region of about €5 million was agreed, and he has signed a two-and-a-half year deal that keeps him at the club until June 2028.

The 28-year-old made his second debut at the club last weekend, featuring as a second half substitute in the 1-1 home draw against Elche. His arrival comes as a timely boost for Valencia, who are in a battle for survival and he is expected to provide a focal point in attack and ease their goalscoring problems.

Transfer fee and contract details

Valencia agreed a to pay a fee in the region of around €5 million to Real Sociedad to bring Sadiq back to the Mestalla.

The Nigerian striker becomes the fourth-most expensive January transfer in the club history after Enzo Perez (€25 million in 2015), Francis Coquelin (€14 million in 2018) and Ruben Sobrino (€5 million in 2019).

The 28-year-old also penned a two-and-a-half year contract at the club, keeping him until the summer of 2028.

Per Capology, Sadiq previously earned around €50,000 per week during his time at Real Sociedad, with an annual earning of about €2.6 million plus bonuses.

The striker will receive a significant pay upgrade at Valencia, taking his potential earnings over the course of his contract to over €6.5 million. Los Che’s total investments could exceed €11 million, which makes him as a valuable acquisition given his age.

From Northern Spain to Eastern Spain

Sadiq used to be one of the most-sought after strikers in Spanish football when he joined Real Sociedad in 2022. However, he suffered an unfortunate anterior cruciate ligament injury few days after making a goalscoring debut for the club and has not hit top form since then.

A move to Valencia offers an opportunity to reset and considering his impressive loan form at the club last season, it should considerably help his career.
