Ghanaian winger Douglas Owusu is making headlines ahead of the summer transfer window with uncertainty over his future at Red Star Belgrade.
The young attacker has enjoyed a standout season and has attracted interest from many other top clubs, including Czech Republic giants Viktoria Plzen, who are hoping to make an early move to beat other suitors to the deal.
Profile
Douglas Owusu began his Asekem FC in Ghana before making his first move abroad in 2024, when he joined Serbian side Radnik Surdulica. The 20-year-old played a key role as the club secured promotion from the second division to the top-flight last season.
Owusu continued his fine form into the current campaign and scored seven goals for Radnik during the first part of the campaign. His impressive performances attracted multiple interest during the January transfer window, with Viktoria Plzen and Bodo/Glimt among the clubs that expressed their desire to acquire his services.
Douglas Owusu aware of Viktoria Plzen interest as Red Star weigh transfer decision
He opted to remain in the Serbian league and moved to Red Star Belgrade for a fee of around €2.2 million, marking the most expensive departure in Radnik Surdulica’s history and he has since scored twice and provided one assist.
Owusu’s versatility makes him an excellent addition for any team, as he is capable of playing on the right wing as well as in right midfield. The 20-year-old can also operate as a makeshift centre forward, giving his side extra cover in the event of injuries or tactical changes.
Transfer breakdown
According to Capology, Douglas Owusu has a market value of around €2.5 million, which makes him one of Red Star Belgrade’s most valuable players.
However, Viktoria Plzen are reportedly preparing a bid worth around €4.3 million, including add-ons, to secure Owusu’s signature from the Serbian club this summer.

Radnik Surdulica are also entitled to a 15% sell-on clause from any future transfer, which could push Red Star to demand a higher fee than Viktoria’s current offer.
The Czech side could also face competition from several clubs across Europe for the winger’s signature and may need to move quickly to avoid missing out on one of their top targets.
