Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has called on Ghanaians to unite behind the national team as they gear up for a demanding FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign, stressing that the squad is determined to leave a lasting mark on the tournament.

Ghana face a stern test in Group L, where encounters against Panama, England, and Croatia await. With progression to the knockout rounds far from guaranteed, the Black Stars know they must be at their best from the opening whistle of the competition.

Addressing guests during a farewell ceremony before the team’s departure to Rhode Island, Ayew acknowledged the difficulty of the task ahead but expressed confidence that the players are ready to embrace the challenge.

“We have three massive games for us, and we want to make you guys proud, want to make Ghana proud,” Ayew said. “Obviously, it’s not going to be easy, but with your prayers and your support, hopefully we’ll be successful.”

The experienced forward emphasised that the players understand the weight of expectation resting on their shoulders and are fully committed to rewarding the faith shown by supporters across the country.

“We want to thank everyone for your support and keep on praying for us because we’re here to make history,” the former Leicester City striker added.

Ghana will begin their World Cup journey against Panama at BMO Field on June 17 before taking on England at Gillette Stadium six days later.

The Black Stars will then conclude their group-stage schedule with a potentially decisive clash against Croatia on June 27, a fixture that could ultimately determine their fate in the competition.

With anticipation building ahead of kick-off, Ayew and his teammates remain focused on navigating one of the tournament’s most competitive groups and giving Ghanaian fans a campaign to remember.
