Uganda national team captain Khalid Aucho is set to leave African giants and Tanzanian Premier League champions Young Africans SC at the end of the current season, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
This development follows the breakdown of contract renewal talks, which had reportedly reached their final stages. The midfielder appeared poised to sign a one-year extension, but the club unexpectedly withdrew the offer without providing a formal explanation.
A source from the player’s representatives at ACFA revealed that negotiations collapsed just as an agreement seemed imminent.
“It came as a shock that the offer was withdrawn when everything appeared finalized. Now, Khalid (Aucho) will look for a new team starting next season. It’s confirmed—he will not remain at Young Africans. He absolutely loves the club, which has given him the best platform, so his focus now is to finish his tenure on a high in the remaining three matches,” the source told Footy-Africa exclusively.
Aucho, whose Transfermarkt valuation is estimated at €125,000, has been with Young Africans since the 2021/22 season, playing a key role in helping the club secure three Tanzanian Premier League titles and three FA Cups. He has made 135 appearances across all competitions.
Previously, the 31-year-old featured for Egyptian sides El-Makasa and East Bengal, as well as Serbian outfit Red Star Belgrade, South Africa’s Baroka FC, and Uganda Premier League club Kirinya Jinja SS.
On the international stage, Aucho—who debuted for the Uganda Cranes in 2013—remains one of the most capped players in the team’s history. He has made 74 competitive appearances and scored two goals. He also captained the side to qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Morocco this December.
