Massively experienced Ghanaian native and central midfielder Kwasi Sibo is on the verge of signing a contract extension with newly promoted Spanish La Liga outfit Real Oviedo, exclusive sources have disclosed to Footy-Africa.

The 27-year-old joined Real Oviedo at the start of the 2024/25 campaign on a two-year contract, and excelled in his first year, as he guided the team from the Spanish Segunda to the top-flight. And while he still has a year left on his current contract, the club has moved to tie him down to fresh terms, as they fend off possible suitors.

The club and manager, Veljko Paunovic have been impressed with Sibo, and have tabled him a new three-year contract. A source at his representing agency, Football Promotions Limited, has exclusively confirmed the developments, indicating that the player will receive improved financial terms as well.

β€œWe have a new contract offer on the table from Real Oviedo with new terms as a reward for his (Sibo) impressive season. He is happy at the club, and he obviously wants to stay, and the signing is to be done earlier next week. It’s a three-year contract, so it offers him a bit of certainty for the future. The club wants to round this piece of business swiftly, as they feel he could attract interest, which may complicate the situation,” the source exclusively revealed to Footy-Africa.

The defensive midfielder played 39 matches across all competitions, having joined from SD Amorebieta in the Spanish lower divisions. He has previously featured for Watford, Betis Deportivo, UD Ibiza, KF Skenderbeu and FC Urartu.

Internationally, Sibo, whose transfermarkt valuation is estimated at €1 million, has yet to complete a cap for Ghana’s senior national team, The Black Stars. However, playing in the Spanish La Liga will most definitely raise his reputation, and subsequently attract future call-ups.
