Nigeria’s participation in the upcoming four-nation invitational tournament in Amman is in serious doubt following rising tensions in the Middle East that have disrupted travel across the region, Footy-Africa can confirm.
The Super Eagles were scheduled to compete in the Jordan Mini-Series later this month, but the competition could be called off or relocated after a recent escalation in relations between the United States and Iran led to the closure of airspace in neighbouring countries.

Several airports have reportedly shut down operations, with flights cancelled or suspended, creating uncertainty around the tournament’s logistics.
The event was billed to take place in Amman, the capital of Jordan, which has also been affected by the regional crisis.
Organisers are now closely monitoring the situation, with hopes that normalcy will return in time for the FIFA international window.
Speaking exclusively to Footy-Africa, Ademola Olajire, Director of Communications at the Nigeria Football Federation, confirmed that the federation is prioritising the safety of players and officials.
“Yes, the NFF is aware of the situation and we are observing it with keen attention. The well-being and safety of our players come first,” he said.
“I can tell you that the organisers and the NFF are watching how events are unfolding with keen interest as it happens. When we make a decision, we will communicate it officially.”

Nigeria, three-time African champions, were set to face Iran national football team in their opening match at the 17,000-capacity Amman International Stadium on Friday, 27 March 2026. Hosts Jordan national football team were also scheduled to play Costa Rica national football team in the other opening fixture.
The second round of games was expected to see Nigeria take on Jordan, while Iran faced Costa Rica.
However, with the regional situation still evolving, a final decision on whether the tournament will proceed, be postponed or moved to another country is expected in the coming days.
