Senegal vs Peru match preview

Senegal secured victory after a remarkable tournament at the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco, defeating the host in a drama-filled final match. Despite CAF overturn of the result and awarding the win to Morocco by forfeit, the Lions of Teranga still plan to present their trophy to supporters when they take on Peru at the iconic Stade de France Stadium. The 2021 African champions will then return to the Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade in Diamniadio Senegal three days later.

Peru, meanwhile, failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, marking their second consecutive absence after a dismal qualifying campaign which saw them finish in ninth-place out of the 10 teams in the South American process. La Blanquirroja will now face Senegal on Saturday, before playing their second match of the window against Honduras next Tuesday.

Prediction

Senegal look the stronger team on paper, and with Peru struggling for form lately and showing defensive weaknesses, they should be well on course for a comfortable win.

Senegal vs Peru Head-to-Head record

  • 29.06.2011 – Peru 1-0 Senegal

The South American side edged their most recent meeting by a lone goal, during an international friendly matchup in 2006.

Recent form: Senegal

Senegal have been very impressive in recent outings and have not lost any of their last eight games across all competitions, with their last defeat coming in a 2-0 result against Brazil last November.

The Lions of Teranga have also kept six clean sheets during this period, including in their last three matches at the 2025 AFCON tournament.

Recent form: Peru

Peru have been very poor in recent outings and have only won one of their last six matches, which was a 2-0 win over South American rivals Bolivia in their last outing.

That result was also their only clean sheet in that run, while they suffered four defeats and recorded one draw in the remaining five matches.

The Crystal Palace forward was one of the standout performers at the 2025 AFCON, and he will be eager to carry that momentum into the game against Peru.

With his pace and knack for scoring important goals, Ismaila Sarr could be a real handful for Peru’s defence in this clash.
