The Ghana Football Association has officially unveiled Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars, following a decision by its Executive Council in consultation with key stakeholders.
The seasoned tactician, widely respected for his global coaching résumé, has been tasked with steering Ghana’s campaign at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup set to be hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Queiroz arrives with a wealth of experience at the highest level of international football.
Over the years, he has built a reputation as a strategic mastermind, having guided multiple nations on the world stage. His journey includes leading South Africa to qualification for the 2002 World Cup, taking Portugal to the knockout rounds in 2010, and managing Iran during both the 2014 and 2018 editions of the tournament.

Beyond international football, the Portuguese coach has held notable roles at top clubs and national teams, including stints with Real Madrid and Manchester United, as well as national sides such as Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar.
His appointment signals Ghana’s intent to leverage vast technical expertise and global experience in pursuit of success.
Queiroz is expected to begin work immediately, turning his attention to preparations for the global showpiece, which kicks off on June 11, 2026.
Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before facing tougher tests against England and Croatia in their remaining group fixtures.
