Ghana’s record goal scorer, Asamoah Gyan, has opened up about why he has not yet taken the expected step into coaching, even though he already holds the necessary UEFA License B certification.

The former Black Stars captain, whose career spanned multiple continents and top clubs such as Udinese Calcio, Stade Rennais, Sunderland, Al Ain and Shanghai SIPG, confirmed that his hesitation has nothing to do with qualifications but rather personal priorities.

Despite being fully eligible to begin a coaching career, Gyan indicated that the demands of the profession require a level of commitment he is currently unwilling to give.

According to him, coaching goes far beyond tactics, it involves time, patience, and consistent mentorship, particularly when working with young players.

“The reason why I haven’t started my coaching thing is all about dedication. When you dedicate yourself to coaching, you will have time for the kids,” he was quoted by kickgh.com.

Asamoah Gyan reflects on World Cup legacy, urges next generation to rewrite history

“I have a UEFA License B, but I’m not into coaching because I have other businesses to attend to. Coaching is about dedication, and you have to focus and teach.”

Since stepping away from professional football, Gyan has shifted much of his attention toward entrepreneurial ventures and off-field engagements. His involvement in various businesses has kept him active, while still allowing him to contribute to football in different capacities, most recently participating in the launch of Ghana’s World Cup kits.

For now, the legendary striker appears content building his legacy beyond the touchline, leaving the door open for a possible coaching future when the timing aligns with the level of dedication he believes the role demands.
