Super Eagles forward Akor Adams in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa has debunked rumours suggesting he could leave Sevilla this summer, insisting that he remains fully focused on achieving great things with the Spanish club next season.
Reports in Spain have suggested that Olympique Marseille, Lyon and a host of other clubs are closely monitoring the 26-year-old following his impressive goal return towards the end of last season. There have also been reports of interest from clubs in Italy and Turkey for the former Montpellier striker.
“It is normal that during this period there will be rumours of transfer moves for a lot of players, and not just myself. I am happy that my work is being recognised, but there is nothing to it,” Adams exclusively told Footy-Africa. “I have not spoken to my agent, and I do not take such things seriously because right now it is time to relax and recharge for next season.”
Olympique Marseille target move for Akor Adams: Potential transfer breakdown
“We did not meet our goals last season, so the focus right now is to see how we can challenge for European places next season. That is the goal, and I am not aware of, neither am I thinking about, all those transfer rumours.”
Adams has quickly become a fan favourite at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium, but it is believed Sevilla are open to reducing their wage bill and could entertain offers for the forward if the right bid arrives.
The club are reportedly looking for around €20 million, with the income expected to help coach Luis Garcia Plaza reinvest in the squad ahead of the new campaign.
Adams enjoyed a solid campaign in Spain and ended the season strongly, which has naturally led to speculation over his future.
With Sevilla looking to rebuild and push for a return to European competition, Adams could yet play a key role in Luis Garcia Plaza’s plans if he remains at the club beyond the transfer window.
