RB Salzburg vs Club Brugge Match Preview

Salzburg head into the clash against the Belgian side with eyes set on reaching the UCL group stages for a seventh consecutive season. After a long period of dominance where they won ten league titles between 2013 and 2023, the Red Bulls finished ended the 2024-25 campaign in second place, finishing behind Sturm Graz for a second straight season.

After a brief stint at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, the Austrian side began their 2025-26 UCL campaign in the second qualifying round against Norwegian side Brann. They recorded an impressive 4-1 triumph away from home in the first leg, before recording a 1-1 draw in the second leg in Austria, to seal a 5-2 aggregate win and set up the clash with the Belgian outfit.

Club Brugge, on the other hand, finished the 2024-25 campaign in second place behind champions Union Saint-Gilloise, to enter the UCL at the third qualifying round. They face a daunting task of progressing ahead of Salzburg, as both sides battle to reach the play-off spots.

The Blue-Blacks will hope to secure a return to the competition after an impressive run in the 2024-25 season. The Belgian side progressed beyond the group stages and eliminated Italian juggernauts Atalanta in the first knockout round. They progressed to the round of 16, before suffering elimination at the hands of Aston Villa. They began their 2025-26 league campaign with a 2-1 win over Genk on Matchday One, before losing 2-1 to Mechelen in their second match.

The Red Bulls side head into the crucial clash on the back of a four-game unbeaten streak. They have scored multiple times in five of their last six matches, but kept just one clean sheet in this run. In their league opener last weekend, they scored a late equalizer to avoid defeat against newly-promoted SV Reid.

The Belgian side have been inconsistent in recent outings, with two wins in their last four matches. They defeated Union Saint-Gilloise in the Belgian Super Cup but were beaten 3-1 by Patro Eisden in their next match. The Blue-Blacks then opened their league campaign with an impressive 2-1 win over Genk before losing by the same scoreline to KV Mechelen in their second match last weekend.

Club Brugge have a poor defensive record, with just one clean sheet in their last seven matches. However, they have scored in all of their last 13 matches in all competitions, including scoring more than once in nine of these matches.

The Nigerian midfield stalwart has been a key figure in Club Brugge’s setup since joining the club from Midtylland in 2022. His versatility, consistency and passing technique makes him a threat to any opposition, as he will be looking to make an impact against the Austrian side.
