Footy-Africa can exclusively report that English Championship side Blackburn Rovers have offered Nigerian defender Mubarak Rasheed the chance to impress during a trial.
The highly-rated youngster, who plays for BFO Academy in Nigeria, has travelled to England after Blackburn reportedly made contact with his academy to arrange the assessment.
According to a source close to the deal Bolaji Bale, Rasheed is expected to spend the coming weeks with the Lancashire club, where he will be monitored by the coaching staff as they evaluate his potential.
Should the trial prove successful, the versatile defender could earn a place in Blackburn’s Under-19 setup, providing a significant step towards launching his professional career in England.
Regarded as one of Nigeria’s brightest defensive prospects at youth level, Rasheed has attracted attention for his versatility and composure at the back. A move to Blackburn would represent a major milestone in his development.
The Championship club has a history of Nigerian representation, with former Super Eagles forwards Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Emmanuel Dennis both having worn the famous blue and white shirt. Rasheed will hope to follow in their footsteps if he secures a permanent deal.
Blackburn are continuing preparations for the new season, with the trial offering the young defender an opportunity to stake his claim at one of England’s historic football clubs.
