Gambian striker Muhamadou “Mo” Kanteh has officially signed a new five-year contract extension with Ukrainian champions FC Shakhtar Donetsk, committing his future to the club until June 2031.
Speaking exclusively with Footy-Africa after signing his new contract, Kanteh expressed his delight at extending his stay and paid tribute to the unwavering support of his family throughout his journey.
“I’m very happy about the opportunity to sign a new contract. This is for my family as well. They have been my support system. Scoring 28 goals in 28 games has only motivated me to work even harder, keep improving and help the team achieve even greater success. I’m ready for the next challenge.”
The new agreement is a reward for Kanteh’s extraordinary debut season, during which he established himself as one of the club’s brightest young talents. The former Wagadu FC forward enjoyed a sensational campaign with Shakhtar’s Under-19 side, scoring 28 goals in 28 league matches to help the team win the league title while becoming the club’s all-time top scorer in a single Under-19 league season.
His outstanding performances convinced Shakhtar’s hierarchy to secure his long-term future, underlining the club’s belief that he has the potential to become a key player in the years ahead.

The teenager is now set to take the next step in his development by joining Shakhtar Donetsk’s Under-21 squad ahead of the new season. While continuing his progression at youth level, he is also expected to receive regular opportunities to train with and feature for the club’s first team.
With Shakhtar preparing to compete for domestic honours as well as the UEFA Champions League in the upcoming campaign, Kanteh will have the chance to continue impressing under the watchful eye of the senior coaching staff as he pushes for a breakthrough into the first team.
The contract extension represents another major milestone in the young Gambian’s remarkable rise from Wagadu FC to one of Eastern Europe’s biggest clubs. His record-breaking goalscoring exploits have already placed him among the most exciting young prospects in Ukrainian football, and the new long-term deal reflects the confidence Shakhtar has in his future.
