Slovak club AS Trenčín have opened negotiations with Nigerian academy Golden Boots Soccer Academy over the signing of highly-rated midfielder Habila Simeon, Footy-Africa can exclusively report.
The 17-year-old is regarded as one of Nigeria’s brightest young talents and has attracted praise from several leading coaches across the country.
Simeon was recently named captain of Nigeria’s Under-20 side following a series of impressive performances and is currently leading the Flying Eagles at the WAFU B U-20 Championship.
Sources have told Footy-Africa that Trenčín have been in discussions with Golden Boots Soccer Academy, which is owned by renowned youth coach Bros, whose academy has produced several players who have gone on to represent Nigeria at different levels.
The Slovak side have a strong working relationship with the academy, having completed a number of transfers in recent years. Among them was Sani Suleiman, who joined Trenčín before later securing a move to German club RB Leipzig.
Although Simeon is also attracting interest from several clubs across Europe, Footy-Africa understands that Trenčín are currently leading the race and are optimistic about reaching an agreement for the attacking midfielder.
Meanwhile, Simeon’s immediate focus remains on international duty as Nigeria begin their WAFU B U-20 Championship campaign against Ghana’s Black Satellites on Monday in a highly anticipated Group B encounter.
The Flying Eagles will then face Togo on July 30 before concluding their group-stage fixtures against Burkina Faso on August 2.
