Newcastle United vs Wolves Match Preview

Newcastle United qualified for a second UCL campaign in three seasons via a third-placed finish in the 2024/25 season. However, their summer was surrounded by a transfer saga involving Sweden striker Alexander Isak, who eventually departed the club for Liverpool in a Premier League record £130 million deal.

The Magpies began their league season with a goalless draw away at Aston Villa and almost nicked an impressive result at Anfield against the Premier League champions only to be denied by a late winner by teenager Rio Ngumoha. Another goalless result against newly-promoted Leeds United in their third match leaves them with just two points and in 17th position.

Wolves, meanwhile, have also had a rocky start to the campaign and have lost all their three matches so far in the league. An opening day 4-0 defeat to Manchester City was followed by a narrow 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth on matchday two.

Despite a comeback 3-2 success over West Ham United in the Carabao Cup, they were defeated on their return to league action for a third straight time. A 3-2 defeat at home to Everton has seen them remain rooted to the bottom of the standings, with pressure already rising on manager Vitor Pereira.

His physicality and big figure makes him a perfect fit for Wolves, who will count on his goal scoring prowess if they are to secure a favourable result.
