Ghana striker Felix Afena-Gyan is determined to remain at Cremonese and convince head coach Davide Nicola that he deserves a place in the side ahead of their return to Serie A, Footy-Africa exclusively reports.
A source close to the player has exclusively told Footy-Africa that Afena-Gyan is focused on staying at the club and hopes to deliver positive news at the end of pre-season.
After spending last season on loan with Juventus Next Gen in Serie C, the 22-year-old has returned to Cremona with renewed focus following a well-rested break in Ghana, and has been training diligently with the squad during pre-season.
Afena-Gyan joined Cremonese from AS Roma in a โฌ6 million move in 2022 after bursting onto the scene under Josรฉ Mourinho the previous year. He helped Roma win the UEFA Europa Conference League before making the switch in search of regular first-team football. However, he found it difficult to establish himself and was subsequently sent to Juventus Next Gen on loan, where he scored six goals in 28 appearances.
Despite speculation over his future this summer, the striker still has three years remaining on his contract and believes he can play a role in the clubโs Serie A campaign. Cremonese are back in the top flight after securing promotion last season and are currently shaping their squad under Nicola. Afena-Gyan is working hard to prove his worth as the club prepares for its Coppa Italia opener against Palermo on August 16, followed by their Serie A return on August 23.
The forwardโs current market value stands at โฌ2 million, and while several lower-tier European sides have shown interest, the player is focused on making an impression at Cremonese.
Afena-Gyan has previously made seven appearances for the Ghana national team, recently making the squad for the Unity Cup, though he remains frustrated at missing out on the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
