Saudi Arabian side Al Wehda convinced Nigerian forward Peter Olayinka to join the club after presenting him with a lucrative financial package, according to a source close to the player who spoke exclusively to Footy-Africa.
The offer is understood to be worth around β¬2 million per season, with Olayinka signing a two-year contract after leaving APOEL Nicosia.
The 30-year-old had other options available to him but ultimately chose Al Wehda after being impressed by the proposal and the opportunity to secure more regular playing time.
Footy-Africa understands that Olayinka was keen to find a club where he could play more consistently after struggling for regular minutes during his recent spell.
The Nigerian also consulted compatriot Odion Ighalo, who previously played for Al Wehda, before deciding to make the move.
Olayinka joined APOEL after leaving Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade and made 14 league appearances, scoring twice during his time in Cyprus.

Before his move to Red Star, Olayinka enjoyed a successful five-year spell with Slavia Prague, where he won three Czech league titles and three Czech Cups.
He later joined Red Star in 2023, winning domestic honours before moving to APOEL.
Al Wehda are currently competing in the Saudi First Division after being relegated from the Saudi Pro League.
For Olayinka, the move provides an opportunity to revive his playing career with regular football while also securing a significant financial package.
Footy-Africa understands that the Nigerian’s decision was ultimately influenced by both the financial terms offered by Al Wehda and the prospect of playing a more prominent role in the team.
