Former English Premier League champions Manchester City are on the verge of completing a deal for Ghana international Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth this month, with the move pending a medical.

The Cityzens have moved faster than other rivals to trigger the winger’s £65 million release clause, which must be activated before January 10.

Semenyo will sign a long-term contract at the Etihad Stadium, which could potentially keep him at the club until 2031. The forward will also earn a basic salary of around £150,000 per week, a significant upgrade from the £75,000 he currently earns at Bournemouth.

Manchester City have triggered the £65 million release clause for the pacy winger and will pay a fixed £60 million fee with an additional £5 million in bonuses.

Semenyo’s former club Bristol City will also earn about 20% of any profit made on the deal, following his exit from the club for £10 million in January 2023. He will sign an initial four-and-a-half-year contract until 2030, with an option of an additional year until 2031.

The Ghanaian forward was also subject of interest from four other top clubs in the English Premier League, with Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United all expressing their desire to acquire his services, although the Cityzens were the quickest to make a formal offer.

Salary breakdown: How much will Semenyo earn at Man City

Per Capology, Semenyo currently earns a basic salary of £75,000 at Bournemouth, but will now earn a double after completing his move to Manchester City, with a salary of £150,000 per week excluding incentives and bonuses.

His annual earnings is expected to exceed £7.8 million and he could earn well over £45 million over the course of his contract at the club. The 26-year-old will become of the club’s most valuable additions in history with their total investment reported to exceed £110 million.

Bournemouth consider options as Antoine Semenyo future raises questions

From South Coast England to Manchester

Semenyo joined Bournemouth in January 2023 from Bristol City and has become one of their most irreplaceable players since his arrival, helping them to a top 10 finish in the EPL last season.

He is now set to begin a new chapter in his career at Manchester City, where he will join a highly competitive squad and provide a different attacking dimension with his pace and direct style of play as they challenge for the title.
