Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz is expected to be among the leading figures at an upcoming Confederation of African Football (CAF) technical review meeting aimed at dissecting Africa’s historic performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and charting the path towards even greater success.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe has revealed plans to bring together the coaches of all African nations that featured at the global showpiece, alongside renowned football experts and former players, for an extensive assessment of the continent’s displays during the tournament.

Queiroz, who steered the Black Stars into the knockout rounds in his maiden World Cup campaign with Ghana, is anticipated to receive an invitation to the high-profile gathering. The Portuguese tactician also appears increasingly likely to remain at the helm of the four-time African champions, with negotiations over a fresh two-year contract continuing.

The veteran coach has enjoyed widespread support since the tournament, with President John Dramani Mahama publicly backing his stay, while Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew and first-choice goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi have also thrown their weight behind extending his tenure.

Five things African national teams Must Do to win the FIFA World Cup

Addressing journalists in Johannesburg, Motsepe explained that the meeting would focus on extracting valuable lessons from Africa’s performances and establishing a stronger technical framework for future FIFA World Cups.

“We are going to host a meeting where we will invite all of the coaches of the national teams that participated in the FIFA World Cup, football experts, legends who have played at the highest level,” Motsepe said.

“The purpose of the meeting is to talk about what we can do better, what have we learnt from our performances at the World Cup. Where we can improve as well.”

The 2026 edition marked Africa’s finest World Cup campaign to date. Nine of the continent’s ten representatives advanced beyond the group stage, underlining the growing competitiveness of African football on the global stage.

Algeria, Cape Verde, DR Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Senegal and South Africa all secured places in the knockout rounds, with Tunisia the only African nation unable to progress.

Despite the unprecedented collective success, the elusive semi-final berth remained out of reach, as every African representative exited before the last four.

Five African superstars who failed to meet expectations at the 2026 World Cup

For Ghana, the journey ended in the Round of 32 after a hard-fought 1-0 defeat to Colombia, with Jhon Arias netting the match-winning goal.

Morocco once again carried Africa’s hopes deepest into the competition, reaching the quarter-finals before eventually bowing out against France.

The planned CAF review is expected to provide a blueprint for the continent’s future technical development, with recommendations from the meeting likely to influence preparations for upcoming major tournaments, including the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
